The PEA-SimpliMD Saturday Digest: Week of December 15–21, 2025

Week of December 15–21, 2025
A Quick Note From Me
As this year winds down, I find myself thinking less about growth charts and more about something simpler.
Control.
Not control over patients or outcomes. Control over time. Over income. Over the shape of your professional life.
Every conversation I had this week with physicians came back to the same realization. You were trained to care for others. You were never trained to care for the business that carries your license, your livelihood, and your family’s future.
That is why these conversations matter. And that is why this week’s posts connect so tightly.
My Quote of the Week
“When you move from hourly work to ownership, you stop selling time and start protecting your life.”
That sentence showed up in different forms across all three posts this week, and it reflects what I see every day inside the PEA community.
This Week’s Blog Recap
🟦 Monday
Why More Physicians Are Choosing 1099 Work to Reclaim Their Lives 🔗 Read more
Snippet: More physicians are walking away from W2 roles not because they dislike medicine, but because they want control again. In this post, I break down why 1099 work restores flexibility, improves income clarity, and opens the door to real business ownership when paired with the right structure.
Why it matters: 1099 work is not a loophole. It is a doorway. What you do next determines whether it becomes a trap or a foundation.
🟨 Wednesday
Escape the Hourly Hustle: The Owner Mindset Doctors Were Never Taught 🔗 Read more
Snippet: Most physicians work harder as their income rises. Owners do the opposite. This post explores the mental shift from employee thinking to ownership thinking, using real physician examples who stopped tying effort directly to hours.
Why it matters: If your income still depends entirely on showing up, you are practicing medicine but running no business.
🟩 Friday
Why 1099 Work Is Better for Your Well Being 🔗 Read more
Snippet: Burnout is often framed as emotional fatigue. In reality, it is structural. This article connects autonomy, scheduling control, tax efficiency, and reduced cognitive load to improved physician well being.
Why it matters: Well being improves when your work fits your life, not the other way around.
Top Tool of the Week
Free eBook: Every Doctor Is a Brand
You may not love the word brand, but the market already has an opinion about you.
This short eBook helps you clarify how you show up as an independent physician so opportunities align with your values, not against them. That clarity matters more in 1099 work and ownership, where reputation drives access.
If you are building independence, this belongs on your desk.

Contract Diagnostics
1099 freedom can disappear with one poorly written clause.
Contract Diagnostics reviews physician contracts so you understand pay, termination terms, and non compete exposure before you sign. This step protects your leverage and your time, especially as an independent doctor.
If you are considering a new role or renegotiation, start here.

My Closing Charge to You
Independence is not about leaving medicine.
It is about practicing it on your terms.
As you head into the final weeks of the year, I want you asking one honest question. Does your current work structure support the life you want to live, or does it quietly drain it?
If the answer gives you pause, stay close. The work you are meant to do next starts with ownership.
I will see you next week.
